University of Antwerp – New Building W, Campus Groenenborger

At its Groenenborger Campus (Groenenborgerlaan 171, 2020 Antwerp), the University of Antwerp has completed the new “Building W”: a state-of-the-art research facility with six floors above ground, specifically designed for the university’s most safety‑critical chemical research groups.

Universiteit Antwerpen

The building houses the research groups ORSY, PLASMANT and LADCA. The laboratories are spread across four high‑quality laboratory floors, each designed and equipped according to the strictest safety and functionality standards.

The project includes, among other features:

  • 86 VAV‑controlled fume cupboards
  • 40 metres of reactor enclosures
  • Installations for 38 different gases
  • 45 safety cabinets and 20 gas cylinder cabinets
in addition to the complete laboratory infrastructure.

Within this project, Waldner Benelux brought its full expertise in high‑end laboratory design and furnishing to the table. In close collaboration with the client, users and consultants, laboratories were realised that meet the highest requirements in terms of safety, functionality and accessibility.

The applied systems not only ensure an optimal and comfortable working environment but also contribute to significant energy efficiency and the sustainable use of the building.

Building W thus forms an inspiring environment where leading‑edge chemical research and technological innovation come together.
